Position Purpose

Responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering training programs that promote health, environmental, and safety stewardship, and awareness across the organization. This role ensures that employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to comply with regulatory requirements and internal HES standards, fostering a culture of safety and sustainability. Key duties include conducting training sessions, creating training materials, assessing training needs, evaluating program effectiveness, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of safety best practices and regulations.

Job Functions

Health, Environment, and Safety (HES)Trainer I:

  • Gain knowledge of the Responsible Operations Management System and Process Safety Management
  • Design and deliver engaging HES training sessions (e.g., onboarding, refresher courses, hazard communication, etc.).
  • Customize training content to meet site specific risks and operational needs.
  • Ensure training programs align with local, national, and international HES regulations such as OSHA and ROMS policies, standards and procedures.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and incident trends.
  • Recommend improvements to training programs based on performance data and regulatory changes.
  • Maintain accurate training records.
  • Develop the ability to adapt training for diverse audiences and learning styles, adjusting to incorporate cultural sensitivity factors and language barriers.
  • Deliver all Health, Environmental and Safety trainings, manage safety awareness program.
  • Work closely with other departments to identify HES training needs.
  • Practice the presentation and understand its content. This will avoid having to read the content.
  • Develop and update training materials, presentations, and handouts. Have the subject matter expert review and validate the content.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments to improve content and delivery.
  • Evaluate workforce competencies in Health, Environment, and Safety to establish targeted training programs for closing identified skills deficiencies.
  • Proactive and resourceful to maintain necessary program to achieve HES goals.
  • Ensure employee compliance with organizational policies, safety procedures and relevant regulations (such as OSHA and Industry Best Practices).
  • Stay current with the latest training trends, best practices, and developments in the field of health, environment, and safety.
  • Maintain records of training activities, employee progress, and compliance. Utilizes and maintains databases for HES records which includes the input of data into SharePoint sites and the HES information management systems.
  • Develops an advanced and thorough understanding of the expectations of the Company’s Management System (referred to as ROMS) and fulfills any assigned responsibilities as outlined in the Company’s ROMS and PSM action plans.
  • Undertake other tasks or assignments which may from time to time be directed as required by HES Manager.
  • Participate in recurring operations and maintenance toolbox meetings.
  • Participate, as required, in other activities as assigned from time to time by the line manager or supervisor, including personal training and development assignment opportunities.
  • Interface with other HES Personnel to gather the relevant knowledge and skills to become competent in the position.
  • Responsible for managing and delivering the company’s defensive driving program.
  • Gains familiarization with the company’s Learning Management System (LMS) and be able to roll out remote training when required.
  • Provide support as required to other areas of the department, as directed by the supervisor.
  • Gain familiarization with the ROMS training matrix and monitor compliance.
  • Develop training plans and strategies for training TAR contractors.

Education and Experience

  • EG national with a college diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in an HES related field such as NEBOSH, OSHA is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the refining, petrochemical or LNG industry directly involved in occupational safety and industrial hygiene programs.

Qualities / Attributes

  • Proven experience in developing and delivering training, preferably in a safety-related field.
  • Ability to design and conduct engaging and informative training sessions.
  • Strong knowledge of health, environmental, and safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate training logistics and manage multiple tasks.
  • Possess excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • A positive attitude, initiative, and passion for developing others.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish are essential for reporting, training, and collaborating with various teams.

Physical Requirements / Work Conditions

  • Work consists of unconstrained, seated office work and outside tasks requiring walking, climbing stairs, stooping, and standing.
  • Work is performed in an air-conditioned office environment and outside in all weather conditions in a noisy operating environment.

Equipment Operated

  • Standard office equipment and personal computer.
  • Gas Monitors, IH and Test Equipment.
