Position Purpose
The Accountant III is a working member of the Finance and Accounting team. The Accountant III is responsible for maintaining accurate and timely company financial records in accordance with company policy, US GAAP, and OHADA accounting principles. Strict adherence to controls and procedures is of utmost importance. Must have the willingness and ability to work at a very detailed level and follow written guidelines and instructions.
Job Functions
- Coordinates external audits with third parties including customers, government agencies, shareholders, and public accounting firms (both OHADA and US GAAP audits).
- Maintains internal control policies and provides recommendation to Finance & Accounting Management team on appropriate company financial controls and safeguards.
- Provides support and maintenance of accounting systems, makes recommendations for system improvements, provides insight and guidance for new accounting system implementation.
- Coordinates system updates with accounting team.
- Provides internal control and accounting system training to the Finance and Accounting team members as needed.
- Provides ad hoc support to Finance and Accounting Director and Compliance, System and Governance Manager.
- Provides direction and coordination through monthly and quarterly closing processes.
- As needed, reviews, analyzes and/or posts monthly entries and ensures accounting records are properly maintained.
- Maintains all records and files of financial transactions in accordance with records retention policy. This includes copying and scanning documents and attaching in SAP.
- Ensures compliance with all statutory, tax and operational reporting in conformance with local laws and regulations and requirements of the agreements.
- Support of Accounting Manager in ad hoc requests related to the Finance & Accounting department.
- Supports Accounting Manager in accounting policy review and OHADA & U.S. GAAP accounting decisions.
- Prepares and presents management reports to senior company management.
- Participates, as required, in other activities as assigned from time to time by the line manager or supervisor, including personal training and development assignment opportunities.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required or a related field with relevant experience.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CA (Chartered Accountant), Masters degree in Accounting or equivalent is a plus.
- 8+ years of experience in Accounting or a related field.
- 3 years in chemical or other hydrocarbon process industry is a plus.
- Experience in the Oil & Gas industry is a plus.
Qualities / Attributes
- Understanding of financial accounting concepts, including US GAAP and/or OHADA financial statement preparation.
- Understanding of internal controls.
- MS Office
- SAP
Physical Requirements / Work Conditions
- Work consists of unconstrained, seated office work.
- Work is performed in an air conditioned office environment.
